My working life has focused on helping working people develop the organizational and financial resources to be successful.
A labour relations specialist with a strong record of leadership and financial management in the non-profit sector, I built on my experience in advocacy, negotiations, mediation and human resources by obtaining my MBA from SFU in 2001. I recently retired from my job with the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union, where I represented the union and workers at arbitration and Labour Board hearings.
I have been treasurer of community and arts groups including my children’s daycare, Everywomen’s Health Centre, and DOXA, Vancouver’s documentary film festival. Other leadership positions include serving as vice-president at the BC Federation of Labour and at the West Coast Legal Education Action Fund, an organization dedicated to affirming women’s equality.
Now in my sixth year on the Vancity Board of Directors, I am Chair of the Board as well as chair of the Banking Application Renewal Ad Hoc Committee. During my time on the Vancity Board, I chaired the Governance and Conduct Review Committee, the Human Resources Committee, Risk Committee, and the Membership Services Committee.
An avid cyclist and hiker, I also enjoy birding. My love of nature has enhanced my appreciation of the need for environmental action.
I am a 38 year member of Vancity and live in False Creek with my husband, Geoff Meggs. We have two adult daughters.
